[ENG] 스트레이 키즈 아이엔을 비추는 시간의 경계

알렉산더 맥퀸의 새로운 크리에이티브 디렉터 션 맥기르(Seán McGirr)의 2024 F/W 첫 컬렉션을 입은 스트레이 키즈의 아이엔. 개와 늑대의 시간에 서서 도시에 어둠이 내려앉길 기다렸다.

<W Korea> 혹시 막내인 아이엔보다 팀에서 더 막내 같은 한 명이 있다면 누군가요?
아이엔 필릭스 형이요. 풍겨오는 분위기가 맑고, 햇살 같고, 행복 그 자체라서 저보다 막내같이 보이는 면이 많다고 느껴요.

여전히 보컬 레슨을 받는다죠? 매니저님이 아이엔 씨의 그런 성실함과 꾸준함을 칭찬하더라고요.
제 색깔을 잘 보여줄 수 있는 보컬리스트가 되고 싶어서 매일 연구 중입니다.

아이엔 씨가 특히 좋아하는 보컬리스트는 어떤 매력과 개성을 가진 이들인가요?
계속 듣고 싶게 만드는 가수가 정말 잘하는 가수라고 생각합니다. 저도 한 번 들으면 계속 듣고 싶은 가수가 되고 싶어요.

스트레이 키즈는 강렬함이 휘몰아치는 스타일의 음악을 주로 선보였죠. 무게감 있는 록 사운드가 들릴 때도 있고, 다양한 사운드 소스를 사용하는 편이고요. 그런 곡에 아이엔의 감미로운 음색이 있어서 매력적인 밸런스가 이루어지는 것 같아요. 스스로는 팀에서 자신의 보컬이 어떤 역할을 한다고 생각하세요?
스키즈의 노래가 워낙 강렬한 편인데, 그 강렬함 속에서 분위기를 중화하는 역할을 담당하는 것 같다고 저도 생각합니다.

아이엔 씨가 2020년 트로트 장르에 도전하는 방송 프로그램에 출연한 걸 뒤늦게 알고 저 놀랐잖아요. 스트레이 키즈와 트로트라니요! 혹시 그때 집안 어른들에게 피드백 받기도 했나요? ‘좀 더 간드러지게 해봐라’ 같은.
하하. 피드백을 따로 받은 적은 없었던 것 같아요(웃음). 어릴 때 트로트를 많이 듣기도 했고, 부모님이나 할머니 앞에서 트로트 곡을 자주 부르곤 했기 때문에 자연스럽게 관심이 있었어요.

요즘 머릿속에 가장 크게 자리한 화두나 고민은 뭔가요?
여러 가지 새로운 모습을 많이 보여드리고 싶은데, ‘어떤 방식으로 보여드릴 수 있을까’ 하는 고민을 많이 합니다.

최근 스스로 생각해도 ‘나 잘했다’ 싶은 일이 있나요? ‘어쨌든 했다는 것만으로 잘한 거다’ 하면서 나를 칭찬할 수도 있고요.
저는 다소 아쉬운 하루를 보냈더라도, 매일 작은 부분 하나씩은 스스로 칭찬을 해주는 편인데요.음, ‘잘하고 있다’ 라고 매일매일 칭찬해주는 그런 저를 칭찬하고 싶습니다.

최근에 ‘어? 나한테 이런 면이 있었나?’ 싶었던 작은 발견을 한 경우는 혹시 있나요?
잘 몰랐는데, 음식 사는 데 지출이 꽤 크더라고요. 조금 줄여보려고 해요(웃음).

아이엔 씨가 신발 덕후라고 들었습니다. 주로 스니커즈를 가지고 있나요? 자랑 좀 해보세요.
네, 구두보다는 스니커즈를 좋아하는 편이에요. 스니커즈 20켤레 이상 가지고 있는 것 같습니다.

스니커즈 끈을 3초 만에 묶는 진기한 모습을 영상으로 봤어요.
유튜브에서 보고 신기해서 따라 해봤습니다(웃음).

아이엔 씨가 생각하는 멋진 패션, 멋진 비주얼은 어떤 스타일인가요?
멋지다고 생각하는 패션 스타일이 딱 정해져 있지는 않아요. 저는 그냥 괜찮은 아이템이 보이면 제가 가지고 있는 옷이랑 조합해보고, 제가 입고 싶은 대로 입는 편이에요.

그럼 자신에게 가장 잘 어울리는 스타일은 찾았어요?
여러 가지 좋아하는 옷을 사보고, 다양하게 조합해보기도 하면서 저만의 스타일을 찾아가고 있어요.

처음으로 꽤 큰돈 들여 구입한 ‘내돈내산’ 패션 아이템은 뭐죠?
스니커즈였던 것 같아요. 120만원 정도였는데, 정산을 처음으로 크게 받았을 때 마음먹고 산 기억이 있어요.

아이엔 씨가 기대하고 바라는 미래에 대해 듣고 싶어요. 아이엔 개인으로서, 그리고 아티스트로서 어떤 인물로 자라 있기를 그려보나요?
꼭 많은 사람들에게 기억되진 않더라도, 소소하게 음악 하면서 좋은 노래를 많이 들려드리고 싶어요. 절 좋아하고 아껴주고 사랑해주는 사람들에게 보답할 수 있는 가수가 되고 싶고요. 보답할 능력치가 될 때까지 더 노력하겠습니다.

<W Korea> : You are the youngest member, but is there any member who seems younger than you?
I.N I’d say Felix seems younger. He is like a sunlight full of pure energy and happiness. These make him feel younger than me.

I heard that you still get vocal lessons. Your manager complimented your hardwork and diligence.
I am trying every day to become a vocalist who can show my own color.

Could you describe the traits and appeal points of your favorite vocalist?
I think a truly good singer makes you want to keep listening. I want to be a singer who make people want to keep listening.

The songs of Stray Kids usually feel powerful with heavy rock sounds and various sound sources. Your sweet voice creates a wonderful balance with these songs. Could you describe your role as a vocalist in the team?
I agree that my role as a vocalist in this team is to neutralize the strong vibes of Stray Kids.

I was surprised when you were featured in a television program for trot songs in 2020. I never imagined Stray Kids with trot song! Did you get some feedbacks from elders, such as “try to sing in a sweeter voice”?
Well, I didn’t get special feedbacks from others (laughs). When I was young, I listened to many trot songs and I used to sing them for my parents and grandmother. So, I was interested in trot songs.

What occupies your mind the most recently?
I want to show different sides of myself, and I often think about how to show different sides these days.

Is there anything you’ve done “well” recently? Or is there anything you want to compliment yourself for at least giving it a try?
I compliment myself for the small things at least once every day, even if I was not fully satisfied. I want to compliment myself for saying “you are doing great” to myself every day.

Have you recently discovered a new side that you haven’t recognized before?
I recently recognized that I spend a lot of money on buying food. So, I am trying to cut down a little bit (laughs).

I heard that you are a big fan of shoes. What sneakers do you have?
I actually prefer sneakers over dress shoes. I think I have more than 20 pairs of sneakers.

I saw your clip tying shoelaces in 3 seconds.
I saw it on YouTube and tried it myself (laughs).

Could you describe a cool fashion or a cool visual?
I don’t have a particular fashion style that looks cool to me. Whenever I see a good fashion item, I combine it with the clothes I already have and try them on as I want.

Did you find your fashion style that suits you?
I am finding my own fashion style by buying different clothes and combining them in various ways.

What was the first expensive fashion item you bought?
I think sneakers were the first expensive fashion item. They were about 1.2 million won, and I bought them after receiving the first payment.

Could you talk about the future you expect? How would you want to be as an individual and an artist?
I don’t have to be remembered by many people. All I want is to continue singing and sing good songs. I also want to be a singer who can return love to people who are cherishing, supporting, and loving me. I will keep working hard until I can return the loves I got.
